Precious Metals
Precious metals are rare naturally-occurring elements of high economic value. This category includes gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Historically, precious metals were used as currency, but are now regarded mainly as investment and as industrial commodities. These precious metals have each an ISO 4217 currency code:
- Gold (one troy ounce): XAU 959
- Silver (one troy ounce): XBA 955
- Platinum (one troy ounce): XPT 962
- Palladium (one troy ounce): XPD 964
Precious metals are traded at COMEX (gold & silver), NYMEX (platinum & palladium), LME (gold), ASX (Australia), TOCOM (Japan), SHFE (China), BM&FBovespa (Brazil).
